Usher Raymond Vs. Raymond Album Review – After the disappointing sales of “Here I Stand”, Usher is back with a new CD interestingly titled “Raymond Vs. Raymond” that will be available on March 30, 2010 ,which is supposed to more or less chronicle his marriage/divorce from Tameka Foster-Raymond. After listening to the CD once, you quickly understand that Usher’s signature style of singing and interpretation of breakup and mostly freaky sex is on every single song. But when you dig a bit deeper you realize the following things about “Raymond Vs. Raymond”:
A- it is a fairly decent CD thanks to the singer’s smooth vocal performance on “Papers”, Benny Mardones’ remake of “Making Love (Into The Night)” and “There Goes My Baby”, his maturity and often entertaining/refreshing beats like on “Daddy’s Home” and “She Don’t
Know”.B- You sadly understand that the crooner decided to take the safe path, but it made the album plain, unoriginal, lazy and at some point it fell into the realm of Boredom.C- You additionally comprehend that the record is all over the place, there is no real link between
the songs which makes the story being told very incoherent. To be honest, I have no idea whether he was aiming for a party record or introspection CD. At the end of the day ,despite the usage of his personal scandals, his amazing voice and some of the best producers out there, the singer failed to deliver a hit record. Like it or not “Raymond Vs Raymond” is just another generic RnB album where a good male vocalist constantly resorted to sex references and uptempo beats. It is official Usher has stopped growing as an artist. But then again, expect Usher’s well known straight-forward persona to seduce his hardcore fans into purchasing the CD in great numbers.
